Facts reduce stigma

Head lice crawl—they cannot hop or fly. They mainly spread through direct hair-to-hair contact. Dogs, cats, and other pets do not carry or spread human head lice.

Getting head lice is not related to personal cleanliness or the cleanliness of a home.

More cleaning is not better treatment

Extensive housecleaning is not needed. Target recently used personal items and the places where the person rested, then focus your energy on correct treatment and rechecks.

Kitchen products are not proven cures

CDC says it does not have scientific evidence that mayonnaise, olive oil, butter, margarine, or similar substances effectively suffocate head lice.
